What we sell and what it’s for…

Forestrall logoLast week we explained the benefits of using a timber merchant over and above a DIY superstore and this week it’s time to expand upon what we sell.

Construction Softwood

The term softwSawn Softwood Treated Postsood is used to describe wood from conifers. Softwood is the source of about 80% of the world’s production of timber.  Softwoods are not necessarily softer than hardwoods. In both groups there’s an enormous variation in actual wood hardness.  Softwoods are used for a wide variety of different applications, from the construction industry right through to high class joinery. Most softwood is available much cheaper than any hardwood, which is why it’s so often used. The fact that most softwoods grow much faster than hardwood plays a part in their comparative cheapness as they’re easier to obtain and tend to have less impact on the environment.

Mouldings, Skirting and Architrave

Skirting is sold in a variety of heights, profiles and finishes, including chamfered, ogee, SWSkirtingsAllPatternstorus and ovolo.  Architrave is used to hide the join between a door frame and the wall.  Floor skirting boards and door architrave finish a room, and add the final touches when you’re redecorating.  Generally it’s the smallest details that can turn a good job into a fabulous job. Simple timber mouldings can add interest to plain surfaces, add design flourishes that totally transforms a look, or instill character in to a whole room (not to mention hiding gaps, rough edges or joins).

Sheet Material

There are a range of sheet materials that all have different purposes within DIY and the building iSundeala-Pin-Boardndustry.  Plywood is ideal for exterior joinery. It can equally be used internally, and is suitable for painting.  MDF Sheets are a uniform, multi-purpose fibreboard panel suitable for interior use.  Hardboard is an interior panel that can be used for boxing in pipework and cupboard backs.  OSB (oriented strand board) is a water-resistant, cut size panel ideal for interior use and general exterior applications.  Chipboard Flooring is moisture resistant, tongued and grooved for fast installation, and is smooth sanded for subsequent floor layering.  Over and above this, there is blockboard, hardibacker board, standard chipboard, MFC, sundeala…. The list goes on!

Timber decks are marvellously flexible structures that can be designed and built to suit you, your family and the property you live in. They make great additions to homeQ Deck Hardwood Deckings of all ages and are superb for businesses like pubs, clubs, hotels and restaurants that want to create an attractive outdoor room for their customers to enjoy.  Over 90% of all decks are made from suitable pressure treated softwoods because of their availability, ease of working and cost effectiveness. Hardwoods come in a range of attractive colours. They tend to be more expensive and require more care to work with than softwoods.

Fencing and Landscaping

CloseboardFencingWe stock a range of fencing and landscaping products that cover the need whether you’re just replacing a single fence panel, to erecting a full new fence with a requirement for panels, posts, gravel boards, post mix, gates and ironmongery.  We also hold a wide range of sleepers, for those customers looking to alter their garden design.  Plus we have a host of tools to assist with the job – post hole diggers, spades, forks, rakes etc.

Woodcare and DIY

Our customers don’t leave our yard with just the wood they require for their prSealantoject.  We also ensure that we hold a stock of all the relevant “accessories” to actually get on with the job.  Whether its sealant or decorators filler, or varnish and wood treatments we have it in stock.  Forestrall even cover the incidental items that you may not consider until the last minute – buckets, dust sheets, gloves, sandpaper, dust masks etc.

Ironmongery is a traditional and somewhat antiquated term for iron goods that were made for use in households, rather than industry. It has since come to mean more, and now includes not only iron, but other metals and plastic.  Within this sector we stock nails, screws, bolts, nuts, washers, connectors, hooks, rawl plugs, metal bracings…..

loft rollPerhaps not always to be found at a timber merchants, we stock a range of loft roll, Celotex and plasterboard.  If our customers have a need for it, then we try to stock it! Celotex is the UK brand leader of PIR thermal insulation solutions for the building and construction market.  A vast amount of expensive heat escapes from your home through the loft, so loft roll is still incredibly popular.  By insulating the loft floor, walls and perhaps the rafters too, you can keep most of the heat where it is meant to be – in the living area of your home.

Garden Sheds and Summer Houses

We offer a wide range of garden sheds, summer and playhouses, garden storage units and pet homes.  We can have pretty much any shed made out of any timber and all the sheds we offer can be made to any specification, within reason.

We’re always interested to find out what our readers purchase in terms of timber and Charnwood_Shedwhere they primarily purchase from.  We’d love to hear your comments and feedback.

If you have an immediate need for any products that we can assist with, please do get in touch on 01474 833096 or sales@forestrall.co.uk
