Get creative this Father’s Day

We did it! Cheerful young male carpenter and his son giving high-five to each other while working in workshop

Are you looking for an inspired and creative gift idea for Father’s Day (June 16th) this year?

We think that many men “wood” love something inexpensive but infinitely precious – your time! Especially if you spend it by supporting them with a creative outdoor project.

Around 27 million people in the UK are devoted to their gardens, a high proportion of which are chaps. They also love rolling their sleeves up to build things – from whole garden sheds and new decking to seats and tiered planters made from sleepers or fresh timber. (source for statistic)

There’s something very satisfying about sitting back on a summer’s day with a mug of tea or a beer, admiring your own handiwork. For your Dad, the new or improved wooden structure will have lots more value, if you helped him to make it!

Where to start for a Father’s Day woodwork project

Popping into one of the Forestrall yards with your Dad could be part of your Father’s Day treat, as he could browse around for just the right supplies for your joint outdoor project. You’ll find us located in Bean, near Bluewater in Kent and in Gillingham, Kent. Both branches are open until midday on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend.  And if you can’t make it in to a yard in person, you can always shop online.

Of course, the time you spend with your father in the garden would “knot” be wasted if you were helping with maintenance and repairs too. Your Dad may much appreciate having a second pair of hands, and someone to chat to, as they “mend fences” in the literal sense!

If fencing maintenance is not your thing, and you’re looking for inspiration for a Father’s Day garden woodwork project, then why not start by thinking about a structure that would get lots of use. This could include, a wooden box sandpit for grandchildren to use, a wooden walkway or a new potting bench for example.

Father’s Day gift that’s hands-on

The end result doesn’t have to be perfect, but at least you would have “nailed” an enjoyable Father’s Day gift that’s fun for both of you.

Of course, you could also go solo and build your Dad a new wooden item for his garden – or mend his fencing, shed or decking – as your present.

Call in to Forestrall Timber and Fencing Merchants for advice and ideas, and show Dad you’re “a chip off the old block” with a fun woodwork project this year.
